Air transport is considered as one of the safest forms of travel. However, projected increase of air traffic in the near future, and Guyana's forested and mountainous terrain in its hinterland, has and may continue to cause challenges to aircraft operational safety. In recognizing these challenges, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has embarked on a program of continuous training and the establishment of a voluntary hazard reporting system. With lessons learned from past accidents and incidents, together with the proactive reporting of hazards and enhanced oversight, Guyana will be poised to greatly enhance safety.
